Custom Domains in Blogger
The New Blogger appears to have another new feature that popped up just tonight I believe, as I was in the same place just last evening and it wasn't there then. No official announcement as of yet, but there are help files in place. And the new feature is, you can use your own domain name on Blogger.
Note, this is different than publishing via FTP to your own host, but rather your blog is still published to blogspot, and has all the advantages of the New Blogger on blogspot (dynamic publishing etc.). But instead of just a redirect, it appears Blogger will host the dns for the domain you select, and route it to your blogspot blog. Seems to me this has been something people have been wanting, and even more so now with all the new features of New Blogger on blogspot.
The new Blogger help files on the subject -
Where can I buy a custom domain name for my blog?
How do I use a custom domain name on my blog?
In effect, this appears to be Google Apps for your Domain coming to the New Blogger.
Update: Jan 5th - Blogger has now Buzzed this...

Great feature, I've already started using it. But I think there is a problem. I cannot use www.mydomain.com and mydomain.com at the same time. Do you know any solution for this?
Thanks for this. I'm not sure if I can use it yet myself but I know others have wanted an alternative to Blogspot. I mentioned your post at Big Blog Directory.
Really made my day. You are a star.
Great spot as usual Kirk! V interesting development, not surprising, but certainly not before time.
Very interesting find and good news for most. However, correct me if I'm wrong but this should be useless to anybody who's blog is just one part of a larger complete website (like with forums and photo albums on the same domain/servers). This could only be used if your blog is the only thing on your domain, right?
P.S. What is that cool effect when I clicked on the image and the background dimmed around the pop-up image? That was cool.
@protesto
Not sure, as I haven't messed with it myself. I'm too cheap to buy a domain. :-) But I would think you can point the whole domain OR subdomain, whichever you want.

Depends...you can keep other content on your old server, as long as you point a unique subdomain to blogger. Such as everything else at www.domain.com, with the blogspot pointed at blog.domain.com
And that effect with the images is Thickbox, which I briefly mentioned here...Remount, Reload
Is there any answer to the problem of using www.mydomain.com and mydomain.com at the same time.
My 123-Reg said that if I make the "@" an "A" type name it would work. It partly does as it sends me to ghs.google.com and I ger the message
The site you have requested could not be found. (404)
It works well with www.my domain.com, but not with mydomain.com
@don
Well I'm going to refrain from giving any specifics for several reasons, 1) I don't have a domain so I can't test or verify anything (too cheap) and 2) it's been going on seven years since I last edited a dns zone file, and my memory isn't what it used to be.
Blogger will map ONE entry to your blog easily enough by just following the directions, forwarding another entry to that address depends on your setup and your dns host. I suggest doing a google search to try to find others that have worked it out. The biggest issue I've seen from people so far is trying to get blogger to map both entries (www.mydomain.com and mydomain.com), it won't. Pick the one you want for blogger, then forward the other one to the one that works.
Thank you very much for your advice.
I agree that re-directing the root domain to the www subdomain would solve my problems. As you stated only one domain can point to blogger.
I am wondering wether there is an easy way to setup the re-direct without external hosting?
My domain registrar provides a forwarding option but unfornately it cannot forward to the www subdomain.
I am using this, and you can only registrate one domain in Blogger custom domain settings, but your domain provider can forward a sud-domain to that domain.
For example I've put this adress in the custom domain settings: http://www.svartlinks.com/
And my domain provider forward http://svartlinks.com/ to the www.svartlinks.com adress.
That way both works.
And if you have one domain for your company for example, you can for example use blog.svartlinks.com on a Blogger.com blog.
Simply and elegant.
Hi stefan svartling
I have done what you have said you did but it seems that that creats a permanent loop and I cannot get to both www.mydomain.com or mydomain.com
At the moment I have put mydomain.com in blog and forwarded www.mydomain.com. My domain register is doing its job but blog comes up with site not found (404)error.
Any chance you can tell me exactly what you put in your domain and blog.
Eg Cname,A type in dom. register. and framed or non framed forwarding.
Many thanks
Don
Well I finally got the internet to recognise both mydomain.com and www.mydomain.com
Here is how I did it.
In my blogspot under settings-publishing I chose your domain and in the box put mydomain.com.
In my domain registrar:-
under manage DNS I have the following.
Name Type Content
@ A 71.14.207.121 (this is ghs.google.com IP address)
www A 192.154.164.82 (this is my registrar IP address)
Under Web Forwarding
Non-framed (framed forwarding caused a slight problem with the blog header)
http//mydomain.com (This forward www.mydomain.com to mydomain.com)
Two points to note:-
The URl in the browser only shows http//mydomain.com (framed-forwarding can make it display www.mydomain.com, but note above.
If ghs.google.com ever changes its IP address I will have to change it also.
It took upwards of 12 hours to work as it propagates on the net. It can take up to 48hours.
If you only want www.mydomain.com you could make www. A subdomain in blogspot and in your registrar make www a cname pointing to ghs.google.com. note the full stop at the end. The @ sign passes on mydomain.com to blogspot when the www. is left out.
I hope this helps best of luck.
Please help me, I have already setup the cnames to ghs.google.com, but when i try to open my site in http://warkahtimur.info its display error 404, Is the 48 hours wait time does not finish are its will display server error? I using www.domainsandmore.com domain registrations services

Please ask your question at the Blogger Help Group
I just don't have the time nor energy to look at DNS issues from here, most likely someone there can help you out.
