Picasa Web Albums Now with Slideshows
Well this pretty much sucks and is slick at the same time. As noted on Google Operating System, Picasa Web Albums now offers an easy to use embedded flash slideshow for your albums.
Sound familiar? It does to me anyway. Let's check it out.
Click and you'll get an easy to use code, with image sizes from small to large in a slick flash interface.
Just copy and paste the code they give you and you got a slideshow. What? No one-click add-to-Blogger button? It must be coming soon. Here's how it turns out.
Ok, it's very slick and cool. If I sound just a bit bitter, it's because it makes my little foray into making a PWA slideshow widget for Blogger obsolete. I was always hesitant to do much on that, as I always assumed that Picasa Web Albums would eventually come out with their own that would be much better than anything an amateur like I could. But still, I just updated the damn thing! Friggin fracking google. Note, my version of it came out in November 2006! So at least I beat the google boys by six months. :-) Gotta hang on to something I do.
Oh, the AJAX Feed API folks have made a javascript version of the slideshow control available for any image feed.
I need a cold towel.

not surprised considering all the movements that are going on in the pic martket like photobucket now being part of news corp, yahoo moves with flickr and google own movements with their powerpoint clone.
so, releasing slideshows seems like a no brainer uh?..
;)
(and yes, i am still around)
and i am glad you came back with such a good series of posts lately..
doesn´t matter. you r the best. thanks for all you greaT STUFF
Seems like it only works if your language is "English(United States)"?
Thanks for your information!!
@avatar
I was wondering if you were still lurking about. Pop up from time to time.
@imp
On the house? I'll have 3 please.
@pablo thanks
@chia
not surprising. They seem to have bugs on that Blogger: fix - Picasa Web Album not visible for New Blogger pics
Hmmm...I'm missing a comment that was here from Mike. I'm sure I published it (because it said nice things) and sure I saw it here on Friday, but it's gone now, and no indication the author deleted it. Well, if Mike comes by know I did publish it, maybe Blogger ate it.
But I will say that maybe things aren't as cut and dried as I originally thought. My little widget may still serve a purpose, as not everyone will want the full featured widget. The simple widget may work better in some situations (as Mike originally stated) so who knows...it's not (completely) dead yet!
hello, i have some question to ask u.
How do I add 'Recent comments' widget at Blogger?
My blogger hasn't the widget, and i don't kown how to add it~
^^
thank u very much.
Your slideshow is just what I was looking for; it's clean and simple and does the job. I have just one silly question; how could I edit the code so that clicking the image DOESN'T link back to my web album?
something important to know, this functionnality is only available if you choose english as language preferece, I am French and my Picasa is in French and I haven't this functionnality, I have to change the language preference to have this option, strange !
I'd like to show some private albumns on a private blogger. Apparently this widget works for public album. Can someone show me how to do it?
Thanks
I still like your version better. Here are a few things I don't like about what they did:
1. Too much advertising. If I could turn it off that would be great.
2. Black chrome around the photo. If I could change the color that would be great. However, I have texture on my pages and therefore I'd like to have a chromeless version. (I can achieve that with yours)
3. They have a special version (chromeless) for the blogger sidebar gadget. It seems to work well at first. However, if you update the album new photos don't drop in. You need to re-add it. What's that all about?
Give the above. Yours works well. One thing I can't make work with yours is the use of unlisted albums. I have a specific usecase this would be handy for.
